Supply sources

Learn how to view and search supply sources as Article-Supplier relationships and maintain them with compliance properties.

Overview

Supply sources link an Article to a Supplier and thus represent the actual supply relationship – including compliance properties such as REACH or RoHS information. They are used in Analytics, in Article management and in the Material Compliance module.

Prerequisites

  • Permission view Supply Sources or edit Supply Sources

How to open the supply source overview

In the sidebar, navigate to Supply Sources. You can also find the supply sources of an individual Supplier in the Supplier profile in the Articles tab.

Search and edit supply sources

In the supply source overview, you search all Article-Supplier relationships, start via Select Articles, Select Suppliers or Enter ERP numbers and paste numbers via copy/paste, for example from a bill of materials. Use filters, for example by last order date, to narrow down the results further. You edit the properties of a supply source in its detail sidebar.

Material compliance properties

Compliance properties such as REACH or RoHS information can be stored for supply sources – directly in the supply source or via a material compliance Request to the Supplier. You create your own supply source attributes (e.g. yes/no, dropdown, number, date) under Settings > Supply Sources.

If activated for your organization, Tacto Intelligence can read uploaded Supplier documents via Fill properties (Article table in the Supplier profile) and suggest the matching supply source properties; you review the suggestions and apply them. Fields that are already filled are not overwritten.

Where does the data come from?

Supply sources are created as soon as an Article is assigned to a Supplier, for example through an order, an invoice or a manual assignment. Compliance properties come either from manual maintenance or from the automatic evaluation of Supplier documents.

Known limitations

  • The Fill properties function is not activated for all organizations and does not overwrite fields that are already filled; review all suggestions manually.

Permissions & access

  • Viewing, editing, creating and deleting supply sources are separate permissions; anyone who may view supply sources automatically also sees the Articles.

Frequently asked questions

Q: What is the difference between an Article property and a supply source property?

A: An Article property applies to the Article regardless of the Supplier. A supply source property, for example a REACH statement, applies only to the specific Article-Supplier relationship, as the information can differ depending on the Supplier.

Q: Can I filter the supply source overview by Category?

A: Not directly. The supply source overview can be narrowed down by Article, Supplier and ERP reference number; you maintain the Category assignment via the Article properties.
