Overview
This article describes how to register and log in to the BAFA portal (ELAN-K2).
Relevant for companies that use or manage an existing access to the BAFA portal.

Good to know
Since 7 November 2025, LkSG reports can no longer be submitted via BAFA's access. Registration for submitting a report is therefore currently not required.

How to register in the BAFA portal
1. Start registration
Open the BAFA portal. You can register with your ELSTER organisation certificate (if available) or with a username and password. After clicking Jetzt registrieren (Register now), you see an overview of the next steps.
After entering the company details and the administrator's personal details, you receive an automatic email with an activation link.
After activation, you receive a confirmation of receipt. BAFA then approves the registration or contacts you if there are questions.
Finally, you receive an email confirming the approval of your registration.
2. Enter your details
2a) Define the prefix
The prefix is the first part of your ELAN-K2 user ID and must be unique in the portal. The easiest option is to use your company name.
2b) Enter personal details and identifier
Click Weiter (Next). Under Kennung (identifier), you define the second part of your user ID. Add your personal details and set a password. It must:
be at least 10 characters long
contain upper- and lowercase letters
contain numbers
contain at least one special character
not contain more than 2 consecutive identical characters
3. Complete registration
Click Weiter (Next) and then Fertig stellen (Finish) to send your data to BAFA. Confirm the activation link in the following email within 10 days, otherwise the registration is discarded.
After activation and approval by BAFA, you receive a confirmation email. Your user ID consists of prefix and identifier: prefix.identifier
4. Log in to the portal
Log in to the BAFA portal with your user ID and password. After more than 3 failed login attempts, access is temporarily blocked. You can then log in again.
